THE  MEMORIAL CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

           PARKERSBURG, WV

FREE HOTDOG

WEDNESDAY

Brian Harrell, pastor of Liberty Street Church of God, called to see if he could use the parking lot on the corner of Latrobe and Charles Streets Wednesday evenings during the summer. He said his congregation would like to cook and give away free hot dogs to folks in the neighborhood – no strings attached. We told him they could use it on one condition – that we at Good Shepherd could be a part of the events. He was excited about having a joint mission with us, and the deal was set.

The reason we are doing this is to reaffirm our presence in the community, to build relationships with our neighbors – to shake hands and learn the names of the folks who live around the church. Obviously we hope that our plan will lower the resistance to entering the church and perhaps to religion in general. We think this is the sort of thing Jesus would do if he were in the neighborhood.

UPDATE: July 25, 2007
The ARC of Wood County distributed free bike helmets during our evening of free hotdogs!
