Vacation Bible School
Each year Good Shepherd offers a free Vacation Bible School (VBS) for elementary and pre-school age children. Some attend our Sunday School, others are related to members and many live in the nearby neighborhood. We meet for one week in late July or early August, Monday through Friday morning, and then share some of the songs we learn with the congregation the following Sunday. Our curriculum is Bible-based and is presented in activity centers staffed by adult volunteers and teen and pre-teen assistants. In 2009 we will continue to use materials published by Augsburg Fortress which are well-received by the children and the adult staff. In recent years we have explored the Great Bible Reef and enjoyed a Rainforest Adventure – this year our theme is Discovery Canyon. Besides songs, games, stories and crafts, this curriculum includes a science activity center – really fun and exciting for the kids.
VBS is funded by the parish and is also supported with donations of materials for decorating and crafts from members. The children and staff enjoy lunches prepared by the Wood County School District as well as a mid-morning daily themed snack. By the end of the week everyone has learned some Bible verses and songs, made new friends and created happy memories.
Discovery Canyon: August 10-14, 2009; 9:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
